Caring for Your Kidneys: Essential Habits for Lifelong Health

Kidney, also called the filtering organ in the body, is helpful in the removal of unwanted materials present in the body. This is done through the kidney's ability to filter. It also plays a role in various functions and secretes various types of hormones that are helpful in blood production and blood pressure regulation.

The main function of the kidney is to remove toxic materials from the body through a filtration mechanism. For example, drug waste products and unwanted body compounds like uric acid are all filtered by the kidneys, helping to maintain the acid-base balance in the body.

The kidney is also involved in the secretion of various hormones in the body, such as renin, which helps regulate blood pressure, and erythropoietin, which is required for hemoglobin production.

Kidneys can be affected not only by an improper lifestyle but also by chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

1. Maintaining body hydration:

• It is necessary to consume around 2-4 Liters of water per day to ensure adequate hydration to  the body. This is because it will be helpful in flushing out toxins from the body.

2. Maintain a Balanced Diet:

        • The food we consume should be proportional to the activity of our organs and their proper  function in the body, as it will provide enough nutritious supply to the organs and the body.

       • Reducing salt intake is one way to achieve this, as it helps to lower blood pressure.

       • Consuming fruits like cranberries, oranges, and vitamin C products can be very effective.

3. Maintaining Blood Sugar Levels:

      • Individuals who have diabetes must ensure that their blood sugar levels are under control.

      • If left uncontrolled, this can lead to diabetic nephropathy, which affects kidney function.

4. Regular Monitoring of Blood Pressure:

       • It is necessary to regularly check blood pressure levels in order to take care of them.

5. Proper Regular Exercise:

• Engaging in moderate-intensity exercises such as walking, swimming, or yoga for at least 30 minutes a day can improve overall health and kidney function.

 6. Avoid Smoking and Excessive Alcohol Consumption:

·        Smoking and heavy drinking can damage the kidney’s inner tissues and someone having pre-existing kidney injuries, these habits will aggravate the condition.

·        By alcohol consumption, it will increase the work load on kidney as it is a one of the harm chemical compounds to the body.

7.     Avoid frequent usage of analgesics (Pain killers):

·        Intake of unwanted medications will affect the kidney function. Mainly intake of high doses and high frequency of pain killers like aspirin, diclofenac, ibuprofen will damage the kidney tissues and impair its function.
