1. What hypothyroidism means?
It is a type of thyroid gland disorder which is caused due to insufficiency of thyroid hormone i.e., tri-iodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) which are helpful in body metabolism.
2. Types of hypothyroidism?
There are three types of hypothyroidism, segregated based on their dysfunction. There are primary, secondary and tertiary hypothyroidism
i. Primary hypothyroidism will be occurred due to defect in thyroid gland.
ii. Secondary hypothyroidism occurs due to inability of pituitary gland in producing thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
iii. Improper function of hypothalamus which will lead to insufficient production of thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) which is helpful in releasing TSH by the pituitary gland, this condition is referred as tertiary hypothyro
3 3. how hypothyroidism occurs?
it has several causative factors which affect the function of thyroid gland which will be leading to low thyroid hormone secretion from the gland.
· Autoimmune
· Iodine deficiency in the body
· Previous thyroid gland surgery
· Congenital
· Pituitary gland dysfunction
· During or after pregnancy
4. What are the symptoms of hypothyroidism?
· Weight gain
· Hair fall
· Dry skin
· Slow health rate (Bradycardia)
· Depression
· Constipation
· Sensitive of cold
Summary:
Hypothyroidism is a thyroid disorder caused by low production of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), which regulate body metabolism. It can be classified as primary, secondary, or tertiary based on the dysfunction in the thyroid gland, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus. Causes include autoimmune diseases, iodine deficiency, gland surgery, congenital factors, and pregnancy. Common symptoms are weight gain, hair fall, dry skin, slow heart rate, depression, constipation, and cold sensitivity.
